Das Alte Schulhaus in Rachtig, Mosel
Saturday morning 0930 start was dry but cloudy skies and I set of towards Dordrecht where I would catch the other 2 members for our trip down to the Eifel. A quick coffee stop at the road side MacDonalds and then we headed off in our usual direction down the motorwayd past Tilburg and Eindhoven to our first stop at Leende. Another coffee break and then across the border at Roermond and the usual route down towards the Eifel. This trip was different as we were unable to get our usual hotel in Korperich and the Biker friendly hotel in Mettendorf had closed.
So we looked for another option and found Das Alte Schuhaus in Rachtig on the river Mosel. I had stayed before. Great comfortable rooms at reasonable prices and a fantastic kitchen with traditional German fare. We did arrive a bit late due to weather and also road works so dinner was also a bit late. Great first day albeit it a bit wet in the German Eifel area but ready for the next days riding in the Eifel proper.
Sunday morning and we were joined by Bryan who decided to drive the 300 odd km from home to the Mosel early on the Sunday. Great to have him with us for our the tour. Weather was great, broken cloud and sunshine and perfect temparature for riding. Off we set past Hahn airport area towards Piesport and then up into the deep Eifel region. A coffee stop along the way and lunch in a great Croatian run German hotel and onwards and eastwards. Roads were dry and good so the speed was kept high between the 4 of us. Great twisty roads as can be expected in the Eifel and staying clear of the river until the last 20 km. A good few stops along the way ensured the day was compfortable and relaxing. Arrived back at the hotel around 1700 in time for refreshment and a great dinner. Another great tour in a familar area of Germany!
As this was just a long weekend trip the Monday saw us heading back north west and homewards. The first 60 km were still on the lovely Eifel roads but at Aldenhoven we deiced to take the motorway and head home. Again a tremedous day riding in the Eifel which remains such a pleasure area for us and great having such fine riding roads on our doorstep. Hopefuly return in September will be possible!
